Fidel Castro, in 1959 led the Cuban Revolution to overthrow Fulgencio Batista. He had told the United States that he was going to lead a democratic country so they supported him, but he lied and decided to run and control a communist country. The USA was angry and tried to assassinate Castro and overthrow his government. The Bay of Pigs event was mainly supposed to overthrow Castro by training the rebels, giving them weapons, and setting up a blockade from Cuba. This event is soon resulted in failure and Kennedy is blamed for it, and he owns up to it and surprisingly gains respect. In July 1962, it was discovered that the Soviets were sending missile launchers and parts to Cuba. The United States found out about this because they had been spying on Cuba ever since they became Communist. Kennedy was now faced with 3 choices, to do nothing, create a blockade, or invade Cuba. The blockade became the clear choice because if he had invaded, World War III would have started. USA feared the Soviets would break the blockade and if this blockade would have been broken, World War III would have broke out. JFK and Krushchev came to the agreement that they did not want to start another war, so Krushchev turned back his ships.
